BBNC, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking an Indigenous Cultural Intern!
The internship, from January 15 – June 15, 2025, will focus on documenting Indigenous place names from the Katmai area. The intern will also conduct interviews with Elders and other Indigenous knowledge bearers, transcribe interviews, and upload place name information into BBNC’s Bristol Bay Online! platform, app, and Katmai National Park’s Cultural Heritage Resource Information System. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in event planning, community engagement, and cultural documentation, emphasizing the traditions and heritage of Katmai descendants.
Minimum Requirements:
- 18 years of age or older
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Currently enrolled in college
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Practice cultural sensitivity and respect for Indigenous traditions
- Prior experience in community engagement, cultural initiatives, and/or event planning
