BBNC is excited to announce that Nanvarpak has been approved as a geographic name through our Bristol Bay Place Names Project!
Nanvarpak, a traditional Yup’ik name meaning “Large Lake,” is located approximately seven miles from Twin Hills and eleven miles from Togiak.
This is BBNC’s second name nomination approved by the Alaska Historical Commission and the U.S. Board of Geographic Names. In 2022, we celebrated the official recognition of Tl’useł Vena, a traditional Dena’ina name meaning “Pants Lake.” Both names will be recognized on state and federal maps.
